Tornado risk in the United States has shifted eastward. The traditional "Tornado Alley" of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska is still tornado-active, but "Dixie Alley" — Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana — now records more tornado fatalities and damage events per year than traditional Tornado Alley. The combination of densely forested terrain, limited warning lead time, and mobile home concentration makes Dixie Alley more deadly per tornado.
